Who can apply
Farnham organisations who wish to apply for funding for an art-based educational activity.
Grant criteria
- Projects must have a visual arts creative input, such as painting, sculpture, textiles etc
- Projects outside the Farnham area may be considered depending on how many beneficiaries are from the Farnham area
- For the purposes of the South Street Fund, the definition of art does not include performing arts such as drama, music or dance or photography. Applicants connected to these types of project will need to demonstrate the creative connection to visual arts for funding to be considered.
Successful applications
We award around 25 grants a year. In previous years this has included:
- a clay exploration class for children aged three to 11 at Farnham Pottery
- the commissioning of artists to work with children in 12 local schools

About the South Street Trust
The South Street Trust was set up following the sale of the Farnham School of Science and Art in 1986/87. The school was established by local philanthropists James and John Knight in 1880 for the ‘instruction of children and adults in drawing, painting, modelling, designing for architecture, manufacture and decoration and for no other purpose’.
Proceeds from the sale of the school were invested and the income of around £20,000 per annum is used to provide annual grants for art-based activities.
