Pack a picnic, grab a blanket and get ready to sit back to enjoy the music at Farnham’s Picnic in the Park, which this year takes place on Sunday 25 June from 12pm at Gostrey Meadow.
For those who want a more relaxing day there will be a licensed bar and food stalls will include Thai food, a barbecue, butcher’s quality hot dogs, seafood and crepes. Picnic in the Park will include fundraising activities for Fourth Farnham Scouts.
Thousands of local people and music lovers are expected to come to the event, which is sponsored by Farnham Sixth Form College and marks the end of Carnival weekend. Picnic in the Park is part of Farnham Town Council’s Music in the Meadow programme, sponsored by local solicitors Kidd Rapinet.
“Picnic in the Park is always a great way to spend an afternoon and I expect this year’s event to be no exception. We have virtually non-stop music from midday to 5pm plus face painting, crafts and lots of food and drink stalls. You can even have a massage – so we have everything you could need for a relaxing Sunday afternoon,” says Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Farnham Town Council’s Lead Member for Tourism and Events.
Fun fair rides will keep children entertained while all ages can enjoy jumbo garden games.
Packing a gourmet picnic could not be easier as June’s Farmers’ Market takes place earlier on the same day. Cllr Hargreaves explains: “Our June market is open from 10am to 1.30pm at Central car park so do stop by for breads, cheeses, cooked meats, fresh fruit, salad, drinks and anything else you might want in your picnic.” The market will also sell its usual selection of organic, local and high quality produce including fresh fish and meat, vegetables, and dairy produce plus ready made products such as cakes, drinks, preserves, pies and confectionary.
The afternoon promises to be a treat of local bands performing live to an audience of families, groups of friends, young and old. The audience can expect a range of genres from folk-rock, to classic and contemporary pop plus traditional Japanese drumming.
The afternoon’s line up is as follows:
12-1pm Arc Band
1.10 – 1.30pm Potters Gate Taiko Drumming Club
1.40 – 2.10pm Farnham Ukulele Band
2.20 – 3.20pm Vic Cracknell’s Band
