Waverley Singers
The Waverley Singers is a vibrant and exciting choir of nearly 100 members. Directed by Richard Pearce, the choir performs four or five concerts a year in the Farnham area, covering a wide range of repertoire from Josquin to jazz. The regular accompanist is Jakob Rothoff, and the choir is joined for concerts by professional orchestras and ensembles, soloists and organists as required. The choir’s regular January Choral Workshops are a popular start to the new year.
Recent larger works performed have included Faure: Requiem [also on Tour to Normandy], Will Todd: Mass in Blue – sold out at the Farnham Maltings, Brahms: Requiem, Durufle: Requiem, Elgar: Dream of Gerontius [joint performances with Romsey Choral Society], Bach: Mass in B minor and Mozart: Mass in C minor.
Plans for the choir’s 70th anniversary year in 2025 include a performance with full orchestra of Mendelssohn’s Elijah and a newly commissioned work by Owain Park, made possible by a generous legacy donation from former choir member Jo Reader.
Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings in term time at the Spire Church, South Street, Farnham GU9 7QU. As part of the choir’s connection to the local community, there is a charity collection at the end of every concert, and £8,000 has been raised for local charities since the concert programme restarted after the pandemic in October 2021.
