A local dance company is out to show how Farnham in Bloom is about more than flowers.
The Dance Movement, which is a not for profit community dance company has received a community grant from Farnham Town Council for £1,961.
The grant is for a dance project that involves 150 young people from local schools and groups and aims to celebrate the 25th year of Farnham in Bloom. Performances will take place on Sunday 5 July and on Friday 10 July, which is the day when Farnham’s entry into South and South East in Bloom will also be judged.
On Sunday 5 July, audiences are invited to follow a flower trail that will take them on a route around Farnham. Groups of dancers will perform at a total of nine locations. Each dance has been specially choreographed for the site where it will be performed. A grand finale dance will be performed at Gostrey Meadow.
The Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Mrs Pat Frost presented the cheque to the Dance Movement and says: “The young people have been working very hard to perfect their dances. I enjoyed learning how the locations have inspired the dances. For example, one of the dances will be performed at the Victoria Garden, which used to be the site of an open-air swimming pool. The dance will include elements of swimming and sunbathing and I understand there will also be a few dancing bumblebees to reflect current times!”
Anybody who would like to join in the flower trail on Sunday 5 July is asked to reserve their free ticket by emailing nicky@thedancemovement.co.uk. The audience will need to meet at Gostrey Meadow at 10.45am where they will be divided into groups and led round the trail by a guide.
Before the flower trail there will be an art and craft workshop where participants will be able to make craft flowers.
