Farnham Town Council has handed over a cheque for £10,000 to Waverley hoppa Community Transport.
The grant serves as a contribution to help support the very popular hoppa Shoppa service which is used by residents who do not have access to any other transport. The community transport provider picks people up from their front doors and drops them off in the town centre or at the supermarket.
Councillor Graham White, Leader of Farnham Town Council says: “The hoppa service helps those without transport to maintain their independence and get out and about. Without the service, some of the more vulnerable members of our community would struggle to get their weekly shopping, attend medical appointments and run day-to-day errands.
“For some people, the weekly trip on hoppa is the only time they come into contact with other people, so it also plays a vital role in helping tackle social isolation.”
Earlier this year, funding from Farnham Town Council helped Farnham become the first town in Waverley to be served by an all-electric, wheelchair accessible community transport service.
Councillor White adds: “As a council, we are committed to working towards being carbon neutral and encourage our partners to join us on this journey. hoppa’s switch to electric is a good example of how we have been able to assist with a project that benefits the environment and the community. “
