Farnham’s residents have once again shown that it takes more than bad weather to keep them away from a Town Council event.
Despite regular downpours, people flocked to the Farnham Christmas Market on Sunday. Including the farmers’ market, there were around 200 stalls in Castle Street, The Borough, the Ivy Lane Club, Central car park and the Bush Hotel Courtyard, selling unique, locally crafted gifts, lovely Christmas ornaments and festive food and drink.
Raymond from The Petrol Head Club was one of the stallholders in The Bush Courtyard and said: “We had a great day, and we would love to be included in the next events when they occur. We did so well it was difficult to keep up with demand.”
The family occasion included plenty to amuse younger shoppers with stilt walkers, free face painting, inflatable gingerbread, and a live nativity scene where the star attraction was an albino hedgehog! There was also lots of excitement at the bottom of Castle Street where a bubbleologist created giant bubbles.
Councillor Alan Earwaker, Mayor of Farnham said: “There was such a wonderful atmosphere at the market and plenty of Christmas spirit. The stallholders really helped to make the day memorable for shoppers with some brilliantly decorated stalls; although the best must have been the Grinch-themed mobile bar at the top of Castle Street – it was certainly a showstopper.
“I really appreciate the support given by residents and our sponsors. Thank you to Kidd Rapinet for sponsoring the Christmas Market and to Farnham Veterinary Hospital for being the Principal sponsor of Christmas in Farnham.”
Additional attractions included Santa’s grotto which was sponsored by Branston Adams, live music and performances by Alder Valley Brass Band and Farnham Brass Band. Throughout the day there was also a complimentary hoppa shuttle service to take people to and from the market.
