Catherine Dunstan comes to New Ashgate with a previously unseen collection of glass artworks developed over the course of 2023. From large, lit wall artworks to miniature sculptures, each piece features Catherine’s signature kaleidoscopic designs. Using light, colour and pattern to communicate, this collection invites a moment for pause and escapism.

Catherine utilises a unique pattern-making process in glass called Colour Blooming, which she developed during her MA study at UCA, Farnham. Each artwork explores the unique capacity glass holds to stretch and warp in the kiln and they contain hundreds, sometimes thousands, of hand-cut pieces of coloured sheet glass.

Catherine’s graduate work was recognised by the Contemporary Glass Society with a Commendation in their New Graduate Review. She was shortlisted for New Ashgate Gallery’s Rising Stars Prize 2021 and selected for inclusion in the British Glass Biennale 2022 exhibition as part of the International Festival of Glass. Transmissions is her first solo show.
