Millie flies high with top award!

Farnham Town Council is thrilled to announce that one of their very own has been named ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at the prestigious Great British Business and Community Awards ceremony. 

Millie Sobey, who joined Farnham Town Council as an events apprentice in May 2021 was one of 72 people to be nominated for the award which aims to recognise an individual who has made an exceptional contribution and commitment to their workplace. Millie made it to a shortlist of seven before being notified that she was one of just four to reach the finals which took place in Reading on Friday (21 April).

The judges described how Millie has been an ‘exceptional events/business apprentice’ and that she had ‘far exceeded expectations in terms of her learning, contribution to the organisation and positive effervescent role in the team’. 

Reflecting on her apprenticeship at Farnham Town Council and success, Millie Sobey said: “I am so proud of myself for earning the Apprentice of the Year Award. I have learnt so much and met some of the most amazing people along the way since being Events Apprentice at Farnham Town Council. I would particularly like to thank my manager and colleagues for all of the help and support they have given me over the last 18 months; I have been so lucky to have had such a fantastic mentor to guide me along the way.”

Oliver Cluskey, Events Manager said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Millie won this award. It’s thoroughly deserved, she has been an absolute joy to work with and has totally exceeded all expectations. I have taken great pleasure in seeing her develop and am so proud of this huge achievement. Well done Millie!”

Iain Lynch, Town Clerk says: “Millie has become an integral part of our team. Her warm personality, positive attitude and willingness to take on new challenges has made her an invaluable asset. On behalf of councillors and colleagues I would like to congratulate Millie and thank her for contribution to Farnham Town Council’s activities.” 

Millie Sobey was supported throughout her apprenticeship by Farnham-based Professional Training Solutions which specialises in providing high-quality, unique apprenticeships to meet the needs of local of businesses. The Apprentice of the Year was one of 15 categories in the Great British Business and Community Awards which were held at the Reading Hilton.
