The ever-popular Farnham Christmas Market is set for Sunday 11 December from 10am in Farnham town centre. The market will take over The Borough and Castle Street, which will both be closed to traffic for the day. There will be free face painting at the Bush Hotel and additional stalls at the Ivy Lane Club including Santa’s Grotto, a live nativity and children’s rides.
Councillor Kika Mirylees, Lead Member for Tourism and Events says: “We will have over 150 stallholders selling beautiful homeware, clothes, accessories, food and drink. If you have friends or family members who are tricky to buy for, I highly recommend coming along as there will be lots of handmade and unusual gifts that you won’t find in the shops. We’ll also have entertainment, a live nativity and Father Christmas in his grotto throughout the day, ready to meet families.”
Farnham Town Council, which organises the market, says there will be an emphasis on local traders, with many stallholders selling handcrafted or locally produced gifts. “Expect to find expertly made Christmas wreaths and unique home decorations, arts and crafts items, homewares and lots of food and drink either to enjoy on-the-go or to take home. The December Farmers’ Market is happening on the same day so come prepared with plenty of carrier bags; you will be able to get lots of Christmas shopping done in one day!” says Councillor Mirylees.
Musicians, singers and entertainers will perform at selected locations around the market, enabling shoppers to listen to Christmas carols and enjoy festive performances while they browse.
Farnham Veterinary Hospital is the principal sponsor of the Christmas Market with additional support from gold sponsors Abbeyfield, Kidd Rapinet and Swish Fibre.
The farmers’ market takes place on the same day in Central car park from 9.30am to 2.30pm. The Christmas market will continue until 4pm, with roads expected to re-open shortly after.
