Extreme bike tricks leaves Farnham audience mesmerised

Stunt riders

The stars of the Extreme Mountain Bike Show wowed an audience of hundreds of local children and young people in Gostrey Meadow (on 10 August) at their live show. Despite the scorching heat, the team of world class stunt riders led by British and European champion Danny Butler, performed breath-taking tricks and stayed to meet fans, posing for photos and signing autographs.

“Local youngsters were able to see this amazing show up close for absolutely free. The stunts were truly stunning and the audience of youngsters were able to chat to Danny and his team between shows, making it a really inspiring afternoon for local young people,” says the Lead Member for Tourism and Events, Councillor Kika Mirylees.

The show featured tricks on BMX and mountain bikes as well as parkour routines using high ramps, balancing on narrow beams high above the ground and performing terrifying jumps.

Among the stunts was a bunny hop (jump) on a bike over a pole that was more than 10 cm higher than the current world record and a jump on a bike across a gap of around 2.5 metres.

The Town Council put on the show for free, including free transport from local residential areas, to give young people fun entertainment for the day without it costing families any money. “Six weeks is a long time to keep children occupied. By putting on this event for free, we hopefully gave young people a good excuse to meet up with friends and see something impressive in their local green space. It was great to see the audience interact with the athletes, particularly getting their bike helmets signed and posing for selfies. Hopefully the show inspired local boys and girls to get out and about on their bikes,” says Councillor Mirylees.

More free fun comes to Gostrey Meadow later this month when Ramp Jam hosted by Team Extreme takes place on 31 August. As well as tricks and stunts on bikes, scooters and skateboards, there will be free coaching sessions throughout the afternoon. Full details are on Farnham Town Council’s website. Free transport will be provided.
