Farnham in Bloom gets ready to welcome judges

Final preparations are being made before Farnham in Bloom welcomes judges from South and South East in Bloom and RHS Britain in Bloom to assess the town’s entries into this year’s competitions, this month. Organisers of Farnham in Bloom, Farnham Town Council, are putting the call out to residents, shopkeepers and other local businesses to help with final preparations, particularly tidying up and picking up litter so that the town, villages, parks and cemeteries look their best.

“It really is all hands on deck for the judges’ visits on 13 and 14 July. We would like Farnham to be spotlessly clean,” says Councillor Sally Dickson, Lead Member for Community Enhancement. “Everyone can do their bit, it’s as simple as sweeping up outside your shop or business or for residents, picking up any litter. The Farnham in Bloom team has worked tirelessly on creating beautiful floral displays, supporting outstanding community projects and maintaining our green spaces.” she continues.

Judging takes place over three weeks as Farnham has entered several categories in the South and South East in Bloom competition and culminates with a visit from RHS Britain in Bloom.

Judges will also assess Farnham’s entry to the cemeteries category at West Street and Badshot Lea. Both cemeteries have been recognised with prizes in the competition’s cemetery categories in previous years.

“Judges will be shown the many improvements at the cemeteries including the addition of giant bug hotels, bat and bird boxes as well as pathway maintenance and extension of wildflower areas. ” says Councillor Dickson.

The judging represents the culmination of a year round calendar of work carried out by community groups, schools, businesses and hundreds of individual volunteers. As principal sponsor, The Patio Black Spot Removal Company, has supported the key activities that enable Farnham in Bloom to be so successful while numerous other local businesses have provided sponsorship or sponsorship in kind.

In previous years, Farnham has won many of the top prizes across several prestigious categories and organisers continue to aim high. The results of the South and South East in Bloom competition will be announced in the autumn.
