The Extreme Mountain Bike Show comes to Farnham

A bike event like no other is coming to Farnham on 18 August to offer something completely free and a little different to young people on their summer break. The Extreme Mountain Bike Show will take place in Gostrey Meadow from 12-5pm accompanied by a live DJ set from Kane FM.

“If you enjoyed watching Britain win gold in the Olympic mountain biking, I promise you will be impressed by the show. It’s packed full of stunts which look even more amazing up close. The show is completely free to watch. After another difficult year for young people, we wanted to offer something fun, free and close to home. We even have a free shuttle bus to take people to and from the event safely,” says Councillor Kika Mirylees, Lead Member for Farnham Town Council’s Young People Task Group.

The Extreme Mountain Bike Show will perform their demos at 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm. The demonstration team is led by multiple British and European mountain bike trials champion Danny Butler and has been touring the UK’s cities and towns for over a decade. Food and drink will be available to buy from Funky Pickle and Coffee Can.

Farnham Town Council has teamed up with the youth centre, 40 Degreez and Hale Community Centre to help spread the word about the event. Information about the free shuttle bus service, provided by hoppa, is available at www.farnham.gov.uk.

The show is one of several free bike and skateboarding events taking place locally over the summer. On 29 August, Skate Jam comes to Farnham skatepark on Dogflud Way. Further details will be published on www.farnham.gov.uk.

This month, there will also be a series of summer skating workshops organised by Waverley Borough Council. The workshop will come to Farnham on 17 August and will be held from 10am to 12pm at The Chantrys and 2-4pm at Sandy Hill. The event is aimed at children aged 6 to 16 and is free but booking is essential. Equipment will be provided free of charge or skaters can bring their own boards. Full details, including how to book, can be found @WaverleyLeisure on Facebook.
