Children from Potters Gate Primary School recently took time out of their school day to contribute towards Farnham’s entry into South and South East and Britain in Bloom. 

The school was one of 13 Farnham schools and nurseries to visit Farnham Town Council’s greenhouses to plant hanging baskets. Each school has planted up to six hanging baskets. One basket will be displayed in Central car park, while the others have been taken back to school so the children can care for them and ensure they look their best when judged by the Mayor of Farnham in July. 

Councillor Sally Dickson, Lead Member for Community Enhancement says: “The children have made a brilliant job of planting the hanging baskets. Members of our outside workforce taught the children about the environmental benefits of using peat-free compost and how water-retaining gel can help to conserve water. The children were very enthusiastic and soaked up information about how to look after their baskets.”

The hanging baskets are currently making an appearance around Farnham and include begonias, geraniums, helichrysum and petunias in shades of white, pink and red.
