One hundred new homes for birds are being provided thanks to a grant from Farnham Town Council to children at Badshot Lea Infant School.

The council awarded a grant of £250 to the school to help pupils encourage more wildlife to the area.

“The school enlisted help from Tice’s Meadow Nature Reserve to build the nest boxes. Not only is this grant helping the environment in Badshot Lea by directly benefiting wildlife, it has enriched the children’s learning about nature and has brought the school together with volunteers from the nature reserve,” says David Attfield, the Mayor of Farnham.

Volunteers from Tice’s Meadow built 100 nest boxes for the school. They were handed out during the school assembly on Tuesday 12 February ready to be installed in trees and other locations attractive to their future inhabitants. Pupils and members of the community will monitor the boxes from time to time to see what is using them.

Farnham Town Council is keen to encourage more community groups to develop projects for grant funding. Full details and examples of successful applications are on the grants pages along with information about other grant schemes available.

The council provides funding of up to £2,000 through its Community Grants scheme. Projects that enhance the environment or community life are eligible to apply.
