A proms-style charity concert featuring traditional music alongside contemporary songs and high energy drumming is coming to Farnham on Saturday 9 February. Tickets are available now.

The Mayor of Farnham will host the concert, complete with flag waving and rousing performances, to raise money for Garner’s Goes Bananas, a project in support of the Farnham District Scouts Activity Centre at Garner’s Field.

Councillor David Attfield says: “We have three crowd-pleasing acts to pack into what promises to be an energetic and fun evening. The award-winning Friary Brass Band will treat us to traditional tunes while Farnham Rock Choir will entertain us with performances of contemporary and uplifting songs. For something a little different, we have traditional Japanese drumming from Farnham Taiko Club.

“It will be a stunning show – we’ll provide the flags and, who knows, we might even get to join in Land of Hope and Glory!”

The event opens at 7pm for a prompt start at 7.30pm and is held at the Medici Theatre at Weydon School. Tickets are £15 from Farnham Town Council (01252 712667 or email mayor@farnham.gov.uk).

The Mayor chose Garner’s Goes Bananas as his nominated charity for 2018-19. The project aims to extend and upgrade the Garner’s Field activity centre, just outside Farnham. The centre has played host to generations of scout groups since the 1970s as well as Duke of Edinburgh Award events and other youth groups. It’s now in need of improvements and modernisation.

Organisers of Garner’s Goes Bananas set themselves a target of raising £140,000. They have raised over £120,000 so far.
