Farnham Town Council is inviting applications for the co-option of a new councillor for the Bourne ward following the resignation of Sam Hollins-Owen.
To apply, candidates will need to complete and submit an application form by 9am on Monday 10 December. Applicants will be invited to attend the Council meeting on Thursday 20 December where they will be requested to speak for three minutes to explain why they wish to be co-opted. This will be followed by an opportunity for councillors to ask questions.
After the presentations, councillors will vote for their preferred candidate. The successful candidate will become a councillor with immediate effect and will represent the Bourne ward until the local elections in May 2019.
Councillor David Attfield, Mayor of Farnham says: “This casual vacancy presents a perfect opportunity for somebody who wants to be part of shaping the activities of Farnham Town Council, to be a councillor. There will be an induction and training for the person who is co-opted so they will be fully prepared for their new role.
“You do not have to be affiliated to a political party to apply so if you are interested, I would urge you to complete and submit your application by the deadline.”
To qualify as a town or parish councillor certain criteria must be met. The requirements can be found on our Be a Councillor page along with more information about being a councillor and an application form.
