A community initiative aimed at keeping on top of litter will return this autumn.

‘Big Pick’ is organised twice a year by Farnham Town Council. The campaign encourages volunteers to take action against litter and organise a litter pick of their own or join in an organised event.

This year’s Big Pick Week is being held from Saturday 13 to 20 October.

Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Community Enhancement says: “Discarded litter can ruin people’s enjoyment of their surroundings and make an area feel abandoned. Although Farnham is not one of the most littered areas I have ever seen, every time we hold a litter pick, volunteers still manage to find sack loads of rubbish.

“If you know of an area that needs some attention and you would like to do something about it, please gather together some friends and neighbours who would like to take part in a local litter pick. Farnham Town Council can arrange for you to borrow litter pickers, gloves etc and collect the rubbish.”

Big Pick week will end on Saturday 20 October with a community litter pick in Farnham town centre. Anybody who would like to take part should meet at Farnham Town Council’s office in South Street at 10am. As a small thank you, there will be tea/coffee and cake for everybody who participates.
