Farnham Town Council is celebrating ten amazing years of showcasing the variety and quality of local food at the Farnham Food and Drink Festival by holding the event on a Sunday this year, enabling more of the town and even more visitors to enjoy the day.
The Festival takes place from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 30 September in the town centre. For the first time, it will extend from Castle Street into The Borough, giving space for even more stalls and more leisurely browsing.
Cllr Jill Hargreaves, Lead Member for Tourism and Events says: “Farnham Food Festival has grown in popularity over the years and attracts thousands off locals and visitors. By holding it on a Sunday this year, we hope people who work Saturdays or find the day taken up with chores will be able to join in and enjoy the choice of food and drink stalls, cookery demonstrations, live music and activities.”
She adds: “We also welcome our principal sponsors Wiltshire and Sons to the Festival. As a family business that has been trading in Farnham for over 40 years, they epitomise what’s great about the Farnham business community. Do come and say hello to your local authorised Mitsubishi dealer at their stand.”
From 10am to 4.30pm, Farnham Town Council has organised a complimentary shuttle bus service to make getting to the market easy and stress-free. A bus will depart on the hour and half past the hour from Hale Institute calling at Tesco Express at Upper Hale and Farnham Park. The second bus will pick up passengers from Weydon School on the hour and half past the hour and will stop at the train station and the bus stop at The Chantrys/West Street Cemetery.
Shoppers who prefer to travel by car can park for free on Sundays in Waverley’s pay and display car parks.
Food and drink inspired by the traditions of virtually every continent can be found among the list of this year’s stallholders which reads like a gastronomic A to Z. Festival-goers can try non-alcoholic drinks from Amaize Drinks, biltong from Bad Boys Biltong, deli products from Iberica Cured, tray bakes from Ridiculously Rich by Alana and ginger treats from Wrights Original – as well as an astonishing range of other confectionary, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, baked goods, cheeses, meats and hot food stalls.
The full list includes expert chefs, food producers and drinks makers who will be sharing their tips at live demonstrations and talks. Food and drink fans arriving at 10am when the Festival opens will be able grab a coffee and some brunch before browsing the stalls. With over 20 hot food stalls including, curry, pies, street food from Thailand, Spain, Greece, Mexico and the Middle East, plus toasties, burgers and hot dogs for more traditional tastes, there will be no reason to leave the Festival hungry.
