A student who came to Farnham Town Council for work experience has had her hard work and enthusiasm rewarded with a job offer.
After deciding college was not for her, Johanna Rowbotham (17) studied at Waverley Training Services where she retook and passed her GCSE Maths and English. She also took part in a study programme which aims to help young people find a job or decide what to do after leaving school.
Johanna Rowbotham says: “I’ve always wanted to work in an office so I was really pleased when Waverley Training Services arranged a work placement for me at Farnham Town Council. I’ve really enjoyed finding out what everybody does. I’ve been to a few meetings, visited the Town Council’s greenhouses to help with the schools’ hanging basket competition and helped out at Music in the Meadow. I like to try different things and so far my favourite experience has been going out with the cemeteries officer. I enjoy answering the phone and being able to help people.”
Having impressed her Town Council colleagues, Johanna has now been offered an apprenticeship and will study for a level 2 business administration qualification. Johanna is ambitious to advance her career and is aiming to work in a role where she can manage her own projects.
Councillor David Attfield, Mayor of Farnham says: “Johanna is so willing and has been a breath of fresh air. Apprenticeships are a brilliant way for people to earn while they learn and to gain invaluable work experience which they can apply in future roles. We are delighted to have Johanna on our team and wish her every success in her new role with us.”
