100s put their best foot forward

Over 450 people got out and about to explore some of the lesser known parts of the town during Farnham Town Council’s Walking Festival.

There were 38 walks to choose from during the two-week long festival ranging from two to 14 miles.

Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Lead Member for Tourism and Events said: “It was thanks to a combination of good weather and enthusiastic walk leaders that this year’s Walking Festival was such a success. Such was people’s interest that many of the walks were fully booked.

“I would like to pay particular thanks to Chris Shepheard and Dave Harvey from Breaking Free for their invaluable contributions which made the festival possible. As well as having the joy of exploring some beautiful car-free areas, thanks to the knowledge of the walk leaders, the walkers completed their walk knowing far more about local history, heritage, archaeology, art, nature and Farnham’s industrial past. I hope that the Walking Festival has succeeded in tempting people to carry on walking and to explore even more of Farnham.”

Farnham Town Council has produced a number of self-guided walks. You can download the walk routes or pick up a copy from the Council office in South Street.
