Food fans are eagerly awaiting the September Farmers’ Market on Sunday 24 September when local producers will bring the very best of their harvest to Farnham. The market takes place at Central car park, Farnham from 10am to 1.30pm and features dozens of stalls selling top quality organic fruit vegetables, meat, fish and dairy produce as well as artisan goods such as cakes, breads, drinks, condiments and jams – to name just a few.
“September’s Farmers’ Market is extra special as it takes places during Taste Farnham, our annual celebration of local food and drink,” says Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Lead Member for Tourism and Events. “If your appetite has been whetted already at one of the Taste Farnham events then do head to our regular farmers’ market for some more fabulous local food. Not only is there food and drink to try at the market itself, you can purchase some wonderful produce to cook at home.”
Among the stallholders at this month’s market is Anila’s Authentic Sauces, celebrating 25 years of producing high quality curry sauces. Curry queen Anila Vaghela has fans across the world and supplies Harrods and John Lewis, among others, but began selling her pickles and sauces small-scale at events like farmers’ markets across Surrey and is looking forward to coming to Farnham next week.
Farnham Farmers’ Market will also be giving a warm welcome to two new stallholders. Lynda’s Kitchen will be selling gluten-free and sugar-free products and Pickle Pear Preserves will be selling a variety of sauces, chutneys, jams and preserves.
The celebration of local food and gastronomy continues later in the month when Taste Farnham concludes with the Farnham Food and Drink Festival on Saturday 30 September. One of the area’s largest free one-day food festivals, over 100 stalls will line the length and breadth of Castle Street in Farnham and will feature live music, entertainment and cookery demonstrations.
