It has been a good year for Farnham’s allotment holders with examples of their best produce on display at this year’s Allotment Show.
Growers had a choice of 34 show classes into which to enter their best fruit, vegetables, cut flowers and homemade produce. The entries were judged by Jamie and Jenny Awdry. The cup for Class 1 – a collection of vegetables containing five distinct kinds was awarded to Hazel Sharples, Sandra Hunt won the best exhibit in show with her shallots, David Allen was the winner of most points in show and Steve Kibble was awarded the Neville Watkins Cup for his specimen dahlia. The prizes were presented by the Mayor of Farnham, Councillor Mike Hodge.
Speaking after the show, Councillor Mike Hodge, Mayor of Farnham said: “The 2017 Allotment Show was sponsored by Forest Lodge Garden Centre and I think it was one of the best shows yet. The Gardeners’ Question Time was brilliant: local gardening guru, John Negus and Charlie Wisden from Forest Lodge were very impressive and really knew their stuff!
“The Allotment Show also included opportunities for young people to get involved in the joys of gardening. We held a very successful Bloomin’ Kids session where children potted up a geranium to take home.”
