Farnham Town Council is pleased to have received confirmation that Waverley Borough Council has agreed the modifications recommended by the independent examiner who reviewed Farnham’s Neighbourhood Plan.
This means that the Neighbourhood Plan will now be put to a referendum on 4 May, which is the same day as the Surrey County Council elections.
Iain Lynch, Town Clerk at Farnham Town Council says: “After several years of hard work by Farnham residents and businesses, Farnham’s Neighbourhood Plan is a step closer to being adopted.
“Residents and businesses have been widely consulted about how land should be used and the type of development that should happen across the area for the next 15 years. The proposed Plan shows the housing and employment sites needed in Farnham and identifies key sites where residents have said development could take place. I urge all Farnham electors to take part in the referendum and to confirm whether they wish the Neighbourhood Plan to be the planning document that decides development in Farnham over the next 15 years.”
To become a legal document, a referendum has to be held and for a majority of the Farnham electorate to agree with the content of the Plan.
Anybody who is registered to vote and who lives in the Farnham Town Council area will be asked if they wish Waverley Borough Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Farnham to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area.
After the referendum, if there has been a ‘yes’ vote, the Neighbourhood Plan would be formally adopted by Waverley Borough Council and used to help determine future Farnham planning applications.
To have a say in the referendum, Farnham residents need to make sure they are registered to vote by 13 April 2017. Further details can be found on Waverley Borough Council’s website at www.waverley.gov.uk.
