The South Street Trust is inviting applications from Farnham organisations who wish to apply for a grant for an art-based educational activity.

The South Street Trust was set up following the sale of the Farnham School of Science and Art in 1986/87. The school was established by local philanthropists James and John Knight in 1880 for the ‘instruction of children and adults in drawing, painting, modelling, designing for architecture, manufacture and decoration and for no other purpose’.

Proceeds from the sale of the school were invested and the income of around £20,000 per annum is used to provide annual grants for art-based activities. Farnham Town Council was appointed as the trustee of the fund and is responsible for assessing applications and awarding grants.

Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Secretary of the South Street Trust says: “Last year we awarded 25 grants totalling around £20,000. This included £1,500 to Farnham Pottery Trust’s smock club for a clay exploration class for children aged three to 11. We also gave a grant to commission some artists to work with children in 12 local schools.”
