Bloomin’ Kids do their bit!

Bloomin kids autumn workshop.

Sixty local children have enjoyed getting their hands dirty during Farnham Town Council’s free autumn half term gardening workshops.

The children aged between 2 and 11 potted up pansies to take home and planted tubs of hyacinths and daffodils, which will be sold at the Farnham in Bloom winter celebration in December. The young gardeners also planted bulbs in terracotta pots and these will be displayed in the town centre as part of Farnham in Bloom 2017.

The workshops were led by volunteers from the Farnham in Bloom community group and Farnham Town Council.

Speaking after the workshops, Councillor Stephen Hill, lead member for community enhancement said: “The gardening workshops proved to be very popular and offered a good mix of hands-on fun, facts and learning. I would really like to thank the volunteers who led the workshops. The children listened very carefully and did a great job of planting their own tubs and containers. I hope that when the children’s containers go on display in the town centre, they will take great pride from knowing that they have contributed towards making a part of Farnham look even more beautiful.”

After the event, the feedback on Farnham Town Council’s Facebook page was particularly positive with one parent saying: “We just went to a fantastic gardening workshop for kids organised by Farnham in Bloom and it was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, it was wonderfully organised and the kids had a lot of fun in a really relaxed environment. Thank you to the team at Farnham in Bloom – it was great to find out more about what you do around the town and to see you getting our little people involved too.”

Farnham Town Council is now busy seeking a sponsor for the Easter gardening workshops. Anybody interested in finding out more should contact Lara Prior at bloom@farnham.gov.uk or call 01252 712667.
