Foodies can expect a culinary extravaganza in the coming weeks as Farnham’s 2016 Feast of Food begins on Saturday 10 September.
The Feast of Food, which is organised by Farnham Town Council and sponsored by Shield Security Services Limited, is an annual celebration of local gastronomy involving dozens of small businesses. Among the events will be cookery master classes, demonstrations, restaurant deals, special menus and a day-long food festival.
Councillor Jill Hargreaves, Farnham Town Council’s Lead Member for Tourism and Events says: “Shield Security is very generously sponsoring the Feast of Food this year. Events such as this give a great boost to the local economy and I am very grateful to Shield Security for coming on board as our Principal sponsor. I am also delighted that The Wheatsheaf has agreed to support the festival as a gold sponsor and Lavastar as a bronze sponsor.”
Mr Bipin Joshi, Managing Director of Shield Security, which is based in Aldershot, says: “As a local company, being a part of the Farnham community and supporting other businesses is really important to us. We’re delighted to play our part in making the Feast of Food a success – not to mention, trying some great local food over the next few weeks.”
The Feast of Food starts with Foodie Fortnight (Saturday 10 to Sunday 25 September). A range of menus, some created specially for the fortnight, will be available at participating pubs and restaurants. Other culinary events will also take place such as demonstrations, free cocktails and themed evenings.
Councillor Hargreaves adds: “The menus put together for Foodie Fortnight by our local pubs, restaurants, cafes and retailers look mouth-watering. Many are only available for one day during the fortnight so do book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
Among those taking part in Foodie Fortnight are gold sponsor The Wheatsheaf, Thai Lotusland, the Duke of Cambridge pub and the Lion and Lamb Cafe. Many more food outlets are also offering special menus and discounts with the new Downing Street Deli creating a Portuguese tart.
During the fortnight there will be many opportunities to get hands-on: bakers can try their hand at sugar craft and royal icing techniques at Squires Kitchen Shop while Farnham newcomer, The Botanist will share its secret for making the perfect Bloody Mary. A community afternoon tea will be served at Farnham Maltings where guests are invited to bring a dessert to share and to donate an item to the food bank.

The Feast of Food continues later in September with the annual Food Festival on Saturday 24 September and concludes with the Farmers’ Market on Sunday 25 September.
