Students at the Abbey School in Farnham will soon be making films and creating their own music thanks to a grant from Farnham Town Council. The Mayor of Farnham, Councillor John Ward, presented a cheque for £1,500 to the delighted school prior to the end of the school term.

The Abbey School is a special school for 100 children who have learning difficulties and additional needs. The grant will be used by the school as part of a project to provide a creative arts classroom for the children.

Iain Lynch, Town Clerk at Farnham Town Council explains: “Our community grants for a maximum of £2,000, support one-off projects needing funding for up to three years. We are looking to help projects that promote the environment or community life for residents of Farnham and its surrounding villages. We were very pleased to award the Abbey School with a grant for £1,500, which they will use to equip a classroom with media and performing arts equipment for the pupils.”

The school will buy five Apple Macs with the grant to help create a media, performing arts and music base. The children will use the computers to develop their creative skills by creating and editing films, animation and photography as well as composing and producing music.

“Farnham Town Council supports all sorts of projects with the community grants: from village halls to leisure facilities, environmental projects and projects that help young people or older people, and much more. If you’re involved in a community project, I would encourage you to look at the information on our website and get ready to apply between October and December” adds Iain Lynch.
