Over 50 local carers are expected to take the opportunity to learn a new creative skill thanks to a community grant from Farnham Town Council.

The Council granted the funding to the charity Creative Response, which is planning to hold 16 workshops ranging from glass blowing to print making. The purpose of the workshops is to provide local carers with respite from their caring responsibilities and a chance to meet other carers.

Councillor John Ward, Mayor of Farnham presented the cheque at an exhibition of past work and says: “I was very impressed by the diversity, originality and quality of the exhibits and the Mayoress was so captivated that she bought one of the paintings! Creating art is a marvellous distraction and is a great way for people to give themselves a chance to switch off from the stress and worry of everyday life.”

He adds: “These workshops will provide a calm and supportive environment for the carers and allow them the freedom to express their thoughts and feelings in a creative and positive way. As Farnham is England’s craft town, I am very supportive of craft projects that provide opportunities for people to find new skills and interests.”

Every year, Farnham Town Council provides over £50,000 to community projects. A wide variety of applications are supported, including initiatives that enhance youth, leisure, sport and play facilities, community transport projects and cultural, arts and heritage schemes.
