A welcome appearance from the sun led to the people of Farnham coming out in their droves for Picnic in the Park on Sunday. Families, residents and visitors came together in Gostrey Meadow to enjoy an afternoon of food, music and community spirit, keeping the party mood going after Saturday’s Farnham Carnival.
As well as performances from live bands, there were activities for children throughout the afternoon, a children’s funfair plus a full bar for the grown-ups and even a mobile prosecco and champagne bar from the Popped Truck. Those without their own picnics tucked into tasty treats and freshly cooked food from the likes of Ladda Thai Cuisine and the Sussex Sausage.
Speaking after the event, Councillor Jill Hargreaves Lead Member for Tourism and Events, said: “A marvellous time was had by all at this year’s Picnic in the Park! It was a joy to see so many people of all ages enjoying the music, excellent food and sharing in this popular community event.”
Picnic in the Park is organised by Farnham Town Council each year as a free afternoon of entertainment for the local community. This year it was sponsored by the Duke of Cambridge Pub, part of the Red Mist Leisure Group. The summer programme of Music in the Meadow is sponsored by Savills estate agents.
“The live music was really wonderful,” said Councillor Hargreaves. “The musicians kept us entertained throughout the afternoon and with six artists performing, there was something to suit all musical tastes. I would like to thank all of the performers and stall holders for their contribution towards making the day a success, as well as the Duke of Cambridge and Savills. Without our very generous sponsors, we would not be able to put on this type of event for free.”
The next Music in the Meadow will take place at Gostrey Meadow on Sunday 3 July at the earlier time of 12 noon. The programme will include The Dance Movement showing the dance they will perform before the judges of Farnham in Bloom, a performance by the Rock Choir and the Young Artists’ Showcase.
