Junior band members from Farnham Brass Band will soon be fine-tuning their musical abilities thanks to a grant from Farnham Town Council.
The cheque for £1,000 was presented to the band by Councillor Mike Hodge, Deputy Mayor of Farnham, during a performance at Sunday’s Music in the Meadow.
The community grant will be used to employ a tutor who will help the young band members to improve their playing skills.
Councillor Mike Hodge says: “Farnham Brass Band was formed over 40 years ago and enjoys a busy schedule of engagements. So that the band can continue for at least another 40 years, it needs to attract new talent. Farnham Town Council is delighted to be supporting the band in its mission to grow the skills of its junior section and I look forward to hearing some of them perform at a future Music in the Meadow concert.”
Farnham Brass Band holds open rehearsals on the first Monday of the month at the Tilford Institute. There are three sessions. The first is aimed at anybody who just wants to have a go at blowing a trombone, tuba or trumpet. The second is for those who can read a little music and would like to play in a band and the third is for anybody who can already play and would like to be part of Farnham Brass Band.
