Children ranging in age from three to 12 have taken part in free gardening workshops organised by Farnham Town Council.
During the two-hour sessions the children pricked out seedlings and sowed seeds and made a souvenir apron to take home. Each child was also given a take-home pack, which included gardening tips and notes about what they learned, a Farnham in Bloom badge and some seeds to grow at home. The seeds were provided by Suttons and Thompson & Morgan.
Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Farnham in Bloom says: “The workshops have been very well-received. We held three sessions and in total, 60 children registered to take part. Farnham in Bloom is a community-wide initiative and this was a great way to engage the interest of our younger residents.”
The gardening workshops were sponsored by Andrew Lodge Estate Agents, which is a long-established, independent estate agent in Farnham. Director, Grant Walters says: “We have been in Farnham for over 20 years and feel very much a part of the community. 2016 is a special year for Farnham in Bloom, particularly as the town has been invited to enter Britain in Bloom. We are proud to have supported the gardening workshops and to be encouraging the next generation of gardeners.”
