Farnham gets ready to dazzle

People on stage at Christmas lights switch-on

Farnham is getting ready for its annual glittering makeover when the town’s Christmas lights are switched on.

From 1pm to 6pm on Saturday 16 November, Gostrey Meadow will be transformed into a winter wonderland. Visitors will be able to enjoy live performances from local schools and theatre groups, and local band Brobed Stils will play out the afternoon extravaganza.

Councillor Kika Mirylees, Lead Member for Community and Culture says: “The Christmas lights switch-on is one of the most magical events in our calendar. Thanks to sponsorship from Leighton’s Opticians & Hearing Care and Shaw Gibbs, we have been able to plan a day of free entertainment and activity. Little ones will be able to meet the animals at the live nativity scene, have their faces painted and enjoy funfair rides. And, of course, no Christmas event would be complete without a visit to Santa in his cosy grotto!”

Anybody wanting to get a head start on their Christmas shopping should spare some time to explore the stalls and food vendors or head into the town centre to discover unique gifts in Farnham’s independent shops and high street retailers.

The highlight of the day will arrive at 4.30pm when this year’s special guests will flip the switch, lighting up Farnham for the Christmas season.
