Town to turn out for Remembrance Sunday parade

Remembrance Sunday parade

Farnham’s annual Remembrance Parade and Service is on Sunday 12 November.

The parade will depart from Castle Street at 10.25am and arrive at the war memorial for 10.45am. At 11am, there will be a two-minute silence which will be followed by the Last Post, readings and the laying of wreaths.

After the service at the war memorial, representatives from the uniformed and armed services and youth organisations will take part in a march past. A salute will be taken outside Farnham Town Hall in South Street by the Mayor of Farnham and visiting dignitaries.

Councillor Alan Earwaker, Mayor of Farnham says: “The annual Remembrance Sunday parade provides an opportunity for the community to come together and remember those who lost their lives while serving in the armed forces. Everybody is welcome to join us on this popular and poignant occasion.”

Temporary road closures will be in place on the morning of the parade. The detail of the closures are as follows:

  • 10am to 10.30am – Castle Street from Park Row to southern junction with The Borough
  • Rolling road closure from 10.20am affecting The Borough, South Street and Victoria Road. This is for the parade to leave Castle Street. This section will reopen once the parade clears the Union Road junction with South Street.
  • The South Street from junction at A31 Hickley’s Corner to junction with Union Road will be closed until noon.
  • 11.30am to 11.45am South Street at junction with Victoria Road, to allow Parade to conclude in Brightwells Road.

The parade is organised by Farnham Town Council with the Royal British Legion (Farnham). Other Remembrance Sunday services will happen in Badshot Lea, The Bourne, Hale, Rowledge, Weybourne and Wrecclesham.
