Picnic in the Park brings flower power to Farnham

Farnham’s annual Picnic in the Park is back for 2021 on 27 June from 1-6pm in Gostrey Meadow. Organisers of the much-loved community day have given the picnic the theme of ‘flower power’ and are inviting picnickers to contribute a potted plant with a yellow or orange flower to a public art installation being created on the same day.

Councillor Pat Evans, Lead Member for Tourism and Events, says: “It is free to come to the picnic but you must book in advance – please visit our website from 13 June for details. We would love as many people as possible to embrace our theme of flower power by donating a potted yellow or orange flower to our artwork. Our creative team of volunteers will arrange the flowers into a large sun in the former bowling green at Gostrey Meadow. I think it will be a stunning floral mosaic and symbol of optimism.”

Residents are invited to drop off their plants at Gostrey Meadow on the morning of the picnic. The artwork will form part of Farnham’s submission to this year’s Britain in Bloom. Any queries about the project can be sent to bloom@farnham.gov.uk.

“Even more so than in previous years, we are looking forward to a positive and friendly atmosphere,” says Councillor Evans. “Picnickers can expect fantastic live 60s music from our amazing bands plus a fabulous array of freshly prepared food and drinks. Alternatively, drop into the farmers’ market in the morning and create your own picnic. Just remember to bring a blanket!”

Kidd Rapinet Solicitors is sponsoring this year’s family-friendly event. Attractions will include craft activities, a mini funfair and circus skills training. Full details, including the music line up and list of stallholders, will be published on Farnham Town Council’s website.
