Farnham’s annual celebration of all things floral has started with the official launch of Farnham in Bloom 2021.
With bedding plants at the ready, open spaces sown with wildflower seeds and a new principal sponsor in place, Farnham in Bloom 2021 promises to be a bumper year.
“We are delighted to welcome The Patio Black Spot Removal Company Limited as our new Principal sponsor. Having them on board gives us the green light to throw ourselves into making 2021 a bountiful year for Farnham in Bloom,” says Iain Lynch, Town Clerk at Farnham Town Council, the organisers of Farnham in Bloom alongside many community groups and volunteers.
“Planning for this year’s In Bloom activities started in 2020. Despite the winter doom and gloom, having sponsorship in place early on gave us the confidence to plan positively for 2021, and lots of work has already been done to make this the best Bloomin’ year yet. Volunteers and our outside workforce have been nurturing our bedding plants since early spring so once the weather allows, shoppers and residents will soon see them planted up in troughs and hanging baskets.”
Simon Essex from The Patio Black Spot Removal Company Limited is already enjoying being part of the Farnham in Bloom team: “As an established Farnham business that has been helping people make the most of their gardens for many years, supporting Farnham in Bloom is a great fit for The Patio Black Spot Removal Company. We have been among the many sponsors of Farnham in Bloom in previous years and loved every minute of it. Being the Principal sponsor means we can do more to help the local community boost this year’s efforts.”
Farnham Town Council is looking for new volunteers to join the In Bloom community this year through volunteering or becoming a Friend of Farnham in Bloom. “Many of us turned to our gardens last year and found enjoyment from being among nature and learning new skills. Whether you are an experienced gardener, a newcomer or if you have never even picked up a trowel, if you are keen to help, we would love to hear from you. You could help plant new flower beds in Gostrey Meadow, for example, or help with tasks like weeding and watering at Batting’s Garden,” says John Ely, chair of the Farnham in Bloom Community Group. “Just get in touch by phone, through the Farnham Town Council website or email bloom@farnham.gov.uk.”
With restrictions set to ease, the Farnham In Bloom Community Group and the Town Council are planning wildlife friendly planting schemes, ambitious displays and plenty of community involvement. As in previous years, there are opportunities for schools and groups of employees to get together to help the project.
Despite COVID restrictions last year, Farnham in Bloom brightened up Farnham and surrounding villages over the summer months with glorious displays and cheerful planting – all thanks to the organisation, hard work and commitment of dozens of volunteers supported by Town Council employees, councillors and sponsors. As a result, Farnham has been invited to represent the south east in the RHS National Community Awards 2021.
