Bloomin’ Kids Butterfly Art Competition

A butterfly artwork

Farnham in Bloom, supported by The Patio Blackspot Removal Company Ltd involves the whole community and this Easter the focus is on activities for families.

Farnham Town Council has a limited number of free seed packs to give away to local families who want to have a go at growing their own poppies or cherry tomatoes. You do not need a big space to grow the seeds as they can be planted in upcycled materials such as toilet roll tubes or plastic food trays.

Videos sharing tips and inspiration on how to grow your own will soon be available on Farnham Town Council’s website at www.farnham.gov.uk/bloom.

Iain McCready, Lead Officer for Farnham in Bloom at Farnham Town Council says: “As well as encouraging children to develop a curiosity for growing their own, we have also launched a butterfly art competition for youngsters aged 11 and under.

“Farnham’s budding young artists can create paintings, drawings, collage pictures, mobiles – the choices are endless. Prizes will be given for the best artwork and some will be displayed around Farnham at a later date.”

There are two age categories for the art competition – one is for 4-7 year olds and one is for 8-11 year olds. While younger children may need some help from an adult to assemble the materials, the work and ideas must be their own.

The finished artwork should be no larger than 30cm by 40cm. The closing date for submitting entries is Sunday 18 April.

See our In Bloom page for details about how to enter the art competition and how to apply for the seeds.
