On Saturday 4 March, the Great British Spring Clean will take place in Farnham town centre. The national campaign aims to inspire 500,000 people from across the UK to get outdoors, get active and to help clear up any rubbish.
Individuals, community groups, businesses, sports clubs and charities, and anybody else who wants to improve where they live and has some time to spare, can take part.
Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Community Enhancement says: “We will provide all necessary equipment including gloves, sacks and litter pickers. As a small way of saying thank you to those who donate their time, we will be providing tea/coffee and cake.”
Keeping Farnham litter free forms a major part of the Farnham in Bloom initiative. Throughout the year, Farnham Town Council organises several community litter picks and supports a team of volunteer Bloomin’ Litter pickers who regularly help to keep Farnham clean and tidy.
Councillor Hill says: “The Great British Spring Clean will lead us nicely into our first Big Pick Week of 2017. Anybody can organise or take part in a litter pick. All you need to do is arrange a date between 4 and 11 March, gather some friends to help, contact us to borrow some litter picking equipment and litter pick an area of your choice. The Big Pick Week is always popular and results in sack loads of rubbish being removed from public areas in Farnham.”
Anybody who would like to take part in the Great British Spring Clean or Big Pick Week is asked to register their interest by contacting Lara Prior at lara.prior@farnham.gov.uk or by calling 01252 712667.
