Newly planted flower beds in the area around Farnham railway station are providing a welcoming sight to visitors and commuters thanks to Farnham in Bloom.
The station gives many their first impression of the town, and with thousands of people coming through each day, the area is being improved with a floral make-over. Passers-by will notice the beds have been transformed with French lavender, which is just coming in to flower, canna lilies and pelargoniums. The work was carried out by staff from local garden designers and landscapers, Graduate Landscapes, a Gold sponsor of Farnham in Bloom.
“Involving our community in Farnham in Bloom, whether as individuals or local businesses, is key to its success,” says Cllr Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Farnham in Bloom. “Our sponsors and volunteers get enormous pride from giving their time and expertise to improving the local environment. I am grateful to Graduate Landscapes and would also like to thank Pepperpot Herbs for donating a variety of herbs which have been planted in containers near the footbridge steps. Farnham in Bloom is a chance for us to show the judges how much local people care about our beautiful town.”
Graduate Landscapes is headed by Tony Richards and works across Surrey from its office in Farnham. He says: “By being a Gold sponsor, we have the opportunity to share our skills and knowledge and give something back by looking after this area. It also gives my staff and I the chance to get to know local people better. I hope visitors to the station will enjoy the lavender which we chose for it’s great structure and year-round interest. The lilies are semi-tropical and will give a taste of summer whatever the weather.”
Farnham in Bloom 2016 was officially launched in April and is sponsored by corporate sponsor BBS Ltd, authorised supplier of Magimix parts. This year Farnham celebrates 26 years of Farnham in Bloom and 11 years of the initiative being led by Farnham Town Council, the Farnham in Bloom community group and a team of volunteers.
“Our residents are rightly proud of the town. We want to see all of the town at its best and for visitors to get a great impression of what Farnham has to offer when they arrive,” says Cllr Hill.
