Charity concert hailed a success

The Mayor of Farnham’s charity concert in aid of Farnham’s Post 19 Group has been hailed a huge success.

Over 300 people attended Songs from Stage and Screen, which featured Vocal Point chamber choir and Voices Together community choir. The programme of light-hearted music and entertainment included songs from Les Miserables, My Fair Lady and Carousel plus many other stage and screen favourites.

The concert was conducted by Valerie Hoppé MBE who is the director of both choirs.

Speaking after the concert, Cllr Jeremy Ricketts, Mayor of Farnham said: “The evening was delightful and I am extremely grateful to everybody who supported the event including Cllr David Munro, Chairman of Surrey County Council and eight local mayors. The choirs gave a brilliant, professional performance and I thank them for all the time they spent rehearsing to ensure the concert was a success. One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity for the audience to join in and sing their hearts out to some uplifting classics such as A Long Way to Tipperary and Rule Brittania.”

He adds: “It is truly amazing that so many people gave their time and talents to make the evening such a triumph. The silent auction included some magnificent prizes, which were generously donated by local businesses and individuals. The auction proved to be extremely popular and raised over £1,400. I anticipate that the proceeds from the silent auction, ticket sales and donations have brought the total so far raised for Post 19 to well over £10,000. The money raised will go towards supporting Post 19’s fantastic work with young, local people with learning difficulties – this will not only transform their lives but also of their families as well.”
