The South Street Trust is inviting applications from Farnham organisations that wish to apply for funding for an art-based educational activity.

Each year, around 25 grants are awarded from the £20,000 grant pot. These have included a clay exploration class for children aged three to 11 at Farnham Pottery and the commissioning of some artists to work with children in 12 local schools.

The South Street Trust was set up following the sale of the Farnham School of Science and Art in 1986/87. The school was established by local philanthropists James and John Knight in 1880 for the ‘instruction of children and adults in drawing, painting, modelling, designing for architecture, manufacture and decoration and for no other purpose’.

The proceeds from the sale were invested and it is this that provides an annual income that is used to fund art-based activities.

Cllr Jeremy Ricketts, Chairman of South Street Trust says: “This Trust offers fantastic opportunities for those with imaginative schemes and I encourage applications.”

Farnham Town Council is the trustee of the fund. Members of the Council assess the applications in March and award grants to those that meet the criteria. Grant cheques are sent out in April/May.
