King of the pumpkins

Large orange pumpkin

An allotment holder from the Shepherd and Flock site has won Farnham Town Council’s competition to grow the largest pumpkin.

The circumference of David Wheeler’s pumpkin, which he grew from seed, measured in at a massive 155cm.

Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Farnham in Bloom says: “Judging by the entries in this year’s competition I would say the good summer weather has made it a great year for pumpkins. Mr Wheeler grew a whole family of pumpkins but the winning one was actually quite a bit bigger than the other three!

“Fun competitions such as this are another great way to get people involved in the many events we hold throughout the year for Farnham in Bloom. The competition also encourages allotment holders to grow produce they might not normally grow.”

Mr Wheeler plans to carve the pumpkin ready for Halloween.
