As a celebration of this year’s Volunteers’ Week, Farnham Town Council wants to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the people who volunteer for Farnham in Bloom. This year’s awareness week takes place from 1 to 7 June and is an opportunity to thank everybody who contributes their time, expertise and energy to improving the town.
Councillor Stephen Hill, Lead Member for Farnham in Bloom says: “At this time of year in particular, members of the Farnham in Bloom community group are putting in many hours of work to prepare for our entry into South and South East in Bloom and Britain in Bloom. Very soon, the hanging baskets will be put up in Castle Street and containers and tubs are appearing round town ready to be planted with beautiful floral displays. Work is also going on behind the scenes to prepare our float for Farnham Carnival. I have been the lead councillor for the campaign for just a short time but already I am truly impressed by the volunteers and thank them most sincerely for their efforts.”
Cllr Hill adds: “The wonderful thing about Farnham in Bloom is that people of all ages can get involved. We have had pre school children making hanging baskets, the Post 19 Group are providing invaluable support as are our community group volunteers, many of whom joined the group for something to do during retirement.” Events and activities associated with Farnham in Bloom take place all year round. The Community Group welcomes new volunteers, regardless of how much time they have to spare or their knowledge about plants.
